🎃 Haunted Historic House Tours and Program

History, Hauntings & True Crime at The Heritage Society

Step beyond the ordinary and into Houston's mysterious past during the Haunted Halloween Historic House Tour, a special seasonal event presented by The Heritage Society.

Led by renowned historian Professor Hank Deslaurier, this engaging afternoon tour explores three historic treasures in Sam Houston Park while uncovering stories of unexplained apparitions, chilling local legends, and a true crime mystery worthy of a Dateline episode.

Tour Highlights

Guests will visit:

  • Nichols-Rice-Cherry House (1850), one of Houston's finest surviving examples of Greek Revival architecture.

  • San Felipe Cottage (1868), a rare glimpse into middle-class life in post-Civil War Texas.

  • Staiti House (1905), reflecting Houston's rapid growth at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Along the way, Professor Deslaurier will share fascinating accounts of apparitions reportedly seen in broad daylight, proving that not all ghostly encounters occur after dark. Guests will also hear the shocking story of a murder connected to one of the historic homes, blending true crime with Houston history in a compelling and unforgettable presentation.

Dr. Don Williams

Historian Dr. Don Williams will present a special program on the forgotten cemeteries that once existed in and around Sam Houston Park. Guests will learn about the early burial grounds that occupied the area and discover why some historians and paranormal enthusiasts believe these long-forgotten cemeteries may help explain some of the unusual sightings and experiences reported over the years.

Sandra Lord

Houston historian and author Sandra Lord will discuss, sign, and sell copies of her book, Ghosts of Houston's Market Square Park, which explores the haunted legends, mysterious encounters, and hidden history surrounding one of Houston's oldest districts.
