It all started when…

July 28, 2021- We received an email from one of our Suffrage Exhibit Curator volunteers, Rae Bryant, who is a member of the Houston Suffragists Project.

Last week, a new piece of Houston history was uncovered. The first woman juror in Harris county is Mount Valenta Eggert in 1921. The Texas constitution’s language only having a male on the jury was in place until 1954, so people had been looking for this first woman juror in the 1950s. Eggert was on the board of the Harris Co. Equal Suffrage Assn.
