Candlelight Volunteers
Event Date: Friday & Saturday, December 12 & 13, 2008

Event Location: Sam Houston Park, 1100 Bagby in downtown Houston
Event Description: The Heritage Society's 46th Annual
Candlelight Tour showcases eight of Houston's
oldest historic structures trimmed to perfection in traditional 19th
century décor. The flicker of candles carefully set out specifically for
the event illuminates Sam Houston Park. As visitors tour the park, they
will find that each of the structures offers a different variety of
family-friendly entertainment including everything from storytellers to
local children's choirs. Additionally, The Heritage Society Museum will
feature What’s Cookin’? Two Centuries of American Foodways
exhibit in the museum gallery exploring different cultures through the
food they eat. Children may also visit with Santa, play in the snow,
enjoy a holiday story reading, and make crafts at Santa's Workshop.

Volunteer Job Descriptions: We need your help! Come join the fun
and volunteer at this wonderful holiday event. Please see below for the
various volunteer opportunities.
Ticket Team
Each night to sell tickets, collect tickets as visitors enter, and
control the ticket line. Volunteers should be well-organized and
enjoy working with the public.
Membership Table
Each night to distribute to The Heritage Society members their
admission tickets, which are free with their membership. Volunteers
will also provide visitors with membership information.
Entertainment Check-in
Each night to check in entertainers and crafters. Entertainment
check-in volunteers will inform the escorts where to take the
entertainment groups.
Escorts for Entertainment Groups
Each night to escort entertainment groups to their performance
location (after they check-in) and help get the groups set-up at
their designated location. Not all groups will need escorts, but
the volunteer will need to make sure they get set-up.
Volunteer Check-in
Each night to check in volunteers, provide them with name badges,
and guide them to their designated station. Also will relieve other
volunteers as needed.
Entertainment Hospitality Room
Each night to provide refreshments to entertainers, replenish
refreshment supply, and to monitor crowd control in room.
Surveyors
Each night to survey willing visitors about their experience at
Candlelight. Volunteers should enjoy interacting with people and
have a friendly disposition.
Park Security
Each night to trouble shoot. Volunteers will be in groups of
two. Duties include helping visitors with directional information,
relieving other volunteers as needed for breaks, etc.
Santa’s Workshop
Each night to take Polaroid pictures of children on Santa’s lap, to
help children with the various craft activities, or to help oversee
traffic flow at Snow Land. Volunteers should enjoy working with
children.
Distribution of Event Brochures
Distribute Candlelight Tour brochures around the community.
Volunteers will be required to either walk around to downtown
businesses or to drive around the city to venues such as hotels,
libraries, grocery stores, community centers and YMCAs.
* Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to perform certain
activities.
