Wortham Challenge

Pillot House, built in 1868 at the corner of McKinney and Chenevert, was moved into Sam Houston Park by The Heritage Society in 1965.

This Queen Anne style cottage is believed to be the first residential structure built in Houston after the Civil War. The house was damaged by Tropical Storm Allison's flood waters and is now being raised above the flood plain and restored to its 1868 stateliness. The project will take about twelve months to complete, and is done in collaboration with the City of Houston Parks & Recreation Department.

Wortham Foundation, Inc. challenges Houstonians to support this restoration effort. Every dollar donated to the Pillot project before June 30, 2005 will be matched on a one-to-one basis by the Wortham Foundation, Inc. Contributions may be made by credit card by calling Nicole Templet at The Heritage Society at 713-655-1912. Checks in support of the Pillot restoration project may be mailed to The Heritage Society, 1100 Bagby, Houston, Texas 77002. Please mark your check "Pillot project." Thank you for your support.
