Which facilities in Sam Houston Park
are available for rental through The Heritage Society (THS)?
1891 ST. JOHN CHURCH
Capacity: 65 Guests
Historic church building noted for its
simple beauty and lack of ornamentation; neoclassical structure with
Gothic windows and shutters; octagonal steeple; minimal decorations
allowed.
TEA ROOM
Capacity:
100 (seated dinner)/ 150 (theater-style
& reception)
The Tea Room is located in the Long Row
Building. This unique space is perfect for meetings, presentations,,
receptions, dinners, cocktail parties, and other special events.
MUSEUM GALLERY
Capacity: 200 (reception)
Exhibition space consisting of two main
galleries, a video room and a replica 19th century general
store; contains a 1911 Ford Model T and photographs of Houston taken
between 1930 and 1980. Availability is dependent upon the layout of
temporary exhibitions.
CONNALLY PLAZA
Capacity:
300 (seated dinner)/400 (reception)
This uncommon outdoor facility is
available for receptions, cocktail parties or seated dinners. The
backdrop of Houston's skyline against the open green space of Sam
Houston Park and The Heritage Society campus is impressive and unique to
Houston. Beautifully landscaped brick patio dedicated to the memory of
Texas governor John Connally with magnificent oak tree and rose garden;
surrounded by the 1823 Old Place, 1850 Nichols-Rice-Cherry House, and
the 1866 Fourth Ward Cottage. Tenting is recommended for events.
Is parking available?
Limited parking is available behind the
Kellum-Noble House, in The Heritage Society visitor parking lot. The lot
has a 60 car capacity. Additional parking is available at the client’s
expense at nearby parking garages and surface lots.
What are the rental rates for each of
the facilities?
Rates are per hour and vary based on
weekday or weekend use. All facilities require a four hour minimum
rental and refundable security/damage deposit. Set-up and break-down
time must be factored into the rental.
How far in advance may I reserve a
date to rent one of the facilities?
Reservations may be made nine months in
advance of your event and are confirmed only when you have paid 50% of
the rental fee and signed the Facility Rental Agreement.
Upon renting a facility, what
services does The Heritage Society provide in the time preceding, and on
the day of, the event?
Rental rates include the service of a
facility manager who will consult with you prior to the event and be on
site for the duration of the event. The Heritage Society does not
provide event planning services, catering, decorating, storage, event
set-up or event break-down.
Is alcohol permitted at events held
in THS facilities?
Alcoholic beverages may be allowed in
the areas rented by the user under the Facility Rental Agreement with
the following conditions:

The user must contract with a
company that is a TABC certified provider to serve all alcoholic
beverages;

The supplier must submit copies of
all required permits and certification of insurance;

THS requires police officer(s) at
any event where alcohol is served.
What other restrictions pertain to the
use of THS facilities?

Smoking is not permitted anywhere on
the site

No open flames are permitted
anywhere on the site

All events must be completed, broken
down and equipment removed no later than midnight

Glitter, feathers, rice, birdseed,
confetti, etc. are not permitted
-
Only service animals are permitted
inside of THS facilities
