Uncompensated internships are available
year-round in the curatorial department; school credit may be
available through your university. Qualified applicants should have
an interest in historic preservation, archival research, education,
museum management, development or public relations. The internship
is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.
Curatorial Internships
Interns may be asked to help
with one or more of the following projects, and work either
independently or in conjunction with the curatorial staff. Possible
projects may include the following.

Artifact
Preservation. A large number of objects in our collection
need to be examined for proper inventory and preservation.

Photographing Objects. Every object needs a clear, detailed
photograph in its file for identification purposes.

Inventorying
Archives and Photographs. We have a large collection of old
photographs and archival materials that need to be examined and
organized.

Data Entry.
We need help updating our collections database
All tasks need to be approached in a methodical, careful and
thorough fashion. Accuracy and care are more important than speed.

Education
Internships
The Education Department is committed to presenting informative
gallery exhibits and innovative education programs. Intern may be
asked to help with one or more of the following projects.

Special Events. Interns assist the Education Coordinator
in preparing for events such as Family Day or the Noontime
Lecture Series. This might include developing thematic ideas
and activities for the event as well as assisting with the
actual execution of the event by selling lunches or leading
craft activities.

Exhibits. The Education Department also contributes to
the rotating exhibits in the museum by researching exhibit
topics, selecting items for display, and writing informative
materials to accompany the items.

Ongoing Programs. The Education Department is
responsible for organizing the daily house tours conducted by
volunteers and staff as well as other outreach programs such as
trunk shows and slide shows. Interns help maintain these
programs by organizing materials, updating written materials and
brochures, and generally assisting the Education Coordinator
with the needs of these programs.

Development
Internships
Interns in the development department work on a variety of
projects, including special event coordination, grant writing and
research.
Marketing Internships
Interns will work on increasing The Heritage Society's
visibility in the community. Possible projects may include one or
more of the following:

Increase visibility on websites with audience interest in
history, preservation or cultural heritage.

Prepare PSA's and press releases for events

Increase visibility with emphasis on downtown corporations
